What Are Dental Implants?

Dental implants are prosthetic replacements for missing teeth. These tooth-shaped implanted teeth offer a natural-looking way to restore oral function and replace your entire tooth from the root to the crown. Dental implants consist of three components that act together to replace one, multiple, or full arches of teeth, depending on your needs. These three components are:

The Post: Dental implant posts are small metal cylinders made from body-safe materials like titanium or titanium alloys. These posts are surgically implanted or placed into your jawbone, where they fuse with existing bone, strengthening the supporting structure.

The Abutment: Abutments connect the dentures or crown with the implant post to keep it securely in place.

The Restoration: This piece of your dental implant is a tooth-shaped prosthetic made from various materials, like porcelain or zirconium, depending on the type and location of the restoration. Our practice is pleased to offer sturdy and reliable implant-supported crowns, bridges, and dentures. We'll use materials that fit in with the rest of your smile, offering a beautiful, natural-looking tooth replacement.

Are Dental Implants Right for Me?

Our practice is committed to saving your natural teeth whenever possible and will first approach restoring your smile with the least invasive methods possible. If your problem tooth or teeth are too severely damaged to repair and need an extraction, or you've been missing them for a while, we'll investigate whether dental implants are an effective treatment option. Should you need a tooth removed, our dentist will provide gentle extraction services before your implant procedure.

Because dental implants require surgery, our dentist must ensure you're in good enough overall health to recover from surgery. Depending on your particular situation, our dentist may refer you out for a CBCT scan to get a precise picture of your jawbone health. Our team can strengthen your jaw with pretreatment options like sinus lifts and bone grafts to prepare the bone in areas where we'll implant your posts. We never rush the process of providing you with dental implants and always prioritize the long-term health of your smile.

All-on-4® & Teeth-In-A-Day Dental Implant Options

We offer teeth-in-a-day services in select circumstances to provide you with the increased oral function you want as quickly as possible. For instance, when you qualify for the All-on-4 implant process, we'll place your permanent denture and implant posts in the same appointment. All-on-4 is a desirable process for placing dentures because you receive your permanent denture in one appointment, placed on fewer posts as well. If your jawbone is strong and healthy enough, using four dental implants rather than six or eight can significantly reduce recovery times.

Our dentist will be happy to discuss other situations where we'll place full-arch replacements on the same day your dental implant posts are placed. Additionally, patients receiving a complete set of lower or upper arch restorations can choose between implant-supported dentures or removable overdentures to accommodate their lifestyle.

Is Tooth Replacement Important?

When you're missing a tooth and it's left untreated, it can cause many serious consequences to your overall dental health. You'll lose dental function, remaining teeth begin to shift, and your jawbone can shrink in areas where teeth are missing in your smile. Dental implant posts stimulate your jawbone, and replacing the missing tooth prevents teeth from shifting and can decrease your chance of developing gum disease.

The sturdy titanium posts also provide a strong base that withstands years of chewing pressure. Replacing even one tooth will help with other issues, like making it easier to talk and eat, and an implant denture can make nothing short of a life-changing improvement to your overall oral health and function.
